Cheesy Soda Bread Rolls

Ingredients

What will you need (will make 6 rolls)

  • 160g plain flour
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • Pinch of salt and mixed herbs
  • ½ red pepper, diced
  • 30g Emmental cheese, grated
  • Small handful of basil
  • ¼ small onion, chopped
  • 50ml buttermilk
  • 50 ml milk

What to do

  1. With the help of a grown up, pre-heat the oven to 200°C (170°C for fan ovens)
  2. Measure out the flour and mix together the bicarbonate of soda into a mixing bowl. Stir in the salt and mixed herbs.
  3. Mix in the red pepper, cheese, onion and basil.
  4. Make a well in the centre of your bowl and add the buttermilk and milk slowly and mix into a dough.
  5. Turn out to a floured surface and knead for a while. The dough should be smooth and elastic. Shape into 6 equal sized rolls and put on a baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the sheet and place on a cooling rack. These are best eaten on the same day.
